Woord en Daad has initiated with its NGO-DDA partners, ambitious programmes on youth employment and entrepreneurship in Burkina for over a decade. Some of these programmes are in the closing phase, while others are in the initiation phase.

Despite the important results achieved, the Burkinabe context has considerably evolved and deteriorated, thus confronting development actors with existential challenges. Indeed, the situation in Burkina Faso is characterised by

  • Institutional instability at the political level with a resurgence of state coups (2 recorded in 5 years);
  • A security situation on the verge of chaos leading to a massive and unprecedented displacement of about 2 million Burkinabé from their territories;
  • Employment crises and entrepreneurial initiatives, marked mainly by the inadequacy of training in relation to market needs on the one hand, and on the other hand the organic deficit of policies and mechanisms to support integration and the emergence of a favourable entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Etc.

This context calls for reflection. It is in this spirit that Woord en Daad initiated this workshop with its main partners active in the field of employment and entrepreneurship. During this workshop, the aim was to

– Facilitate the training of consortia members for crisis intervention

– Identify the ambitions of the future agenda of partners in the field of employment and entrepreneurship support in the new context of BF

CIDS facilitated this workshop. To facilitate the reflection, a brief overview of the Burkina context and the evolutionary trends in the world of training was given in plenary before the group work. Thus, the participants were divided into three groups according to their expertise in the topic:

  1. Influence of policies on youth employment
  2. Vocational training
  3. Vocational integration into employment and entrepreneurship

Each group should address 4 issues related to employment and entrepreneurship.
